I know my opponent was exhausted. Hopefully I hid how tired I was too pretty well.

part of me thinks he may have given me the arm to get the match over with. he was pretty tired. whatever the case, his jiu jitsu was solid and there weren't many opening that I found to exploit until the very end of the match, which was some 21 minutes and change long!

Ohkawa Clinic Rad

Daniel and I returned yesterday from the Ohkawa clinic a little charged with new ideas on how to practice a variety of foot sweeps as well as O Soto Gari.
As always, sensei Chuck Wall of Fredericksburg Judo was a gracious host, and a lot of people from all around central Virginia had a great workout.

Competition Judo Clinic

Coming up on January 6th, 2008, Rick Hawn (currently ranked #1 in the USA at 90kg, formerly #1 at 81kgs) will be in Fredericksburg, VA. He will be teaching an all day seminar on competition judo techniques. One can only suspect that this would include a lot of unorthodox crossgripping and some seoi variations...

This is Rick versus Tiago Camilo, usually considered one of the best in the world. He loses to Tiago's uchimata, but this was a VERY close call. Many would consider the throw only a yuko or waza ari.
